The Red Devils won a gridlocked game against Illiana in the final minutes of play on Thursday night. The first half was a defensive battle that produced many great saves, but no goals. Josh Meadows made 13 saves, including an incredible diving stop to keep the ball out of the left upper-ninety in the last minutes of the game. The Vikings were the first team to break the seal in the first possession of the second half. A scrambling possession had the ball nearly over the endline, before Illiana sent it back across the frame for a header finish by #9 Matt Davids. Within five minutes the Red Devils struck back as Cass Hejnowski drove through the Illiana defense and drew a hard foul in the box earning the Penalty Kick and Lowell's first goal. The game would remain balanced until the 78 minute when Cass Hejnowski held up play in the box, dishing to Justin Carlson. Carson weaved through the Illiana center backs and scored to give Lowell the lead. Lowell hung on for the last few minutes to gain the victory. The win brings Lowell's record to 7-1 as they prepare for Morgan Township on Monday (9/15), and Senior Night against Highland on Tuesday (9/17). The lone goal came from an early attack by the Red Devils. Midfielder Kyle Powell (Sophomore) made a great pass into the box, finished by freshman forward Dylan Vanderlaan. Owen Klemp earned the clean sheet in the goal with nine saves aided by a great shutout performance by the defense: Adam Yancey, Levi Shuler, Victor Illieve, Kaiden Andriese and Adam Howe.
