Karina James followed up her impressive sophomore regular season with an even more impressive postseason race at the Nike Midwest race this past weekend. After finishing 4th at the state meet just two weeks ago, Karina went back to the same Lavern Gibson Championship course to race Nike Midwest. She did not disappoint! Karina was in 19th place moving through the 3,000m mark when she started making her move up the pack. She finished down the final straight with her signature kick and passed several runners along the way. Her efforts got her a time of 17:41.6 and a 9th place, 2nd team All-Region finish overall. Even though this time can’t be counted as a new school record, which she currently owns, it does give her a personal best time by about 12 seconds. Her finish is also the highest place in the Lowell girl’s program history. for the Nike Midwest race. Even though this won’t be high enough of a finish to qualify for nationals in Oregon, it gives Karina confidence that she can run with not only the best in the state, but around the country as well.
